From the Land of Al-Mahrousa (Egypt) and at Al-Salam Theater, I had the opportunity to watch the play “El Teatro,” two hours of visual and auditory delight—whether in terms of the set design, the songs, the acting, or the play’s message to the audience. In short, I was fortunate to enjoy a meaningful and entertaining theatrical experience that excelled in all its audiovisual and dramatic elements. I won’t break down and analyze the elements of the “Teatro” production, as each element truly deserves its own article; however, today I will highlight the direction “Ahmed Fouad”—that maestro who conducted his theatrical composition with outstanding direction, using his vision to give each element its due and its space in terms of direction, dramatic and theatrical technique, and how to employ them on stage

His theatrical musical composition—a piece that resonated in our ears, rich with thought, theatrical performance, and directorial technique—immersed the audience in the essence of theater and its meanings, a sensation we’ve been missing lately. And here is “Teatro,” restoring to us those beautiful meanings of what true theater is all about. The director played on the play’s theme: “Give me theater, and I’ll give you civilization.” This is the theater we were raised on and have read so much about—that the civilization and history of any nation stem from its culture and its theater.

For theater is the father of the arts and a mirror reflecting the culture of any nation—and that is the theme of “El Teatro,” whose cast and crew have demonstrated that art endures regardless of differing tastes, conflicts, circumstances, or social class; talent and refined art remain the winning hand throughout the ages. At the beginning of this article, I noted that my piece would not engage in analysis or deconstruction; rather, our words today are a message of gratitude to all those in charge and officials in the Arab Republic of Egypt—represented by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture—for supporting Arab and Egyptian culture, so that Egypt may remain the beacon of Arab culture and the pioneer of Arab theater.

Thank you to all the producers and actors in the play “El-Teatro” and special thanks to the director, Ahmed Fouad, for this outstanding production and for supporting new young talent—nurturing and blending it with established names in Egyptian and Arab theater through your exceptional directorial vision, as showcased in the play “El Teatro”.
